During the week of Nov. 6-10, 2023, schools throughout the United States will celebrate National School Psychology Week (NSPW) to highlight the important work school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive. This year's theme is "Let's Grow Together," inspired by the importance of both personal and shared strengths in our growth as individuals and school communities in every season of life. The theme recognizes every aspect of growth, as fundamental to effective learning environments and to school psychologists' role in supporting student well-being and learning. Powhatan County Public Schools wants to honor our three school psychologists: Dianne White (PMS, PES); Kirsten Lightner (PocES/PHS); Katie Barnard (FRES/PHS). #wearepcps #teampowhatan

A photo of a woman and text that reads: PLEASE Welcome New PCPS Employees Katie Matheny My husband and I live in Midlothian along with our two children. My son will be a senior and my daughter will be a sophomore this year. In my “spare” time, I enjoy watching my kids do what they love. My son plays soccer for his school team, and my daughter does cheerleading for her school team. They keep us pretty busy! About Me I have been a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in Chesterfield County for the past 21 years. I look forward to getting to know everyone in Powhatan and experience the “family feel” I have heard so much about. I love the water- beach, boating, pool, whatever. Powhatan County Public Schools kicks off its Let’s Pull Together Tab Collection today. Now through Dec. 11, bring your aluminum pull tabs to your child’s school. The tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond, which provides a "home away from home" for families traveling to the Richmond area while their children receive medical treatment in local hospitals. By collecting the pop tops from aluminum cans and bringing them to RMHC Richmond, PCPS can help RMHC continue to carry out its mission of keeping families close. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Background is a bus driving down a rural road in fall. Text that reads: School Bus Safety Week. Oct. 16-20, 2023. Tip 2: Walking to the Bus Stop Walk young children to the bus stop or encourage children to walk in groups. There is safety in numbers; groups are easier for drivers to see. Practice good pedestrian behavior: walk on the sidewalk, and if there is no sidewalk stay out of the street. If you must walk in the street, walk single file, face traffic and stay as close to the edge of the road as you can. Stop and look left, right and then left again if you must cross the street. Do the same thing at drive -ways and alleys. Exaggerate your head turns and narrate your actions so your child knows you are looking left, right and left.
