The Powhatan Education Foundation (PEF) recently spoke at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Powhatan to talk about the organization’s efforts to support Powhatan County Public Schools. Former grant recipients Kirsten Bentzen (PHS), Jessica Miller (PocES), and Bilal Z. Raychouni (PMS) talked about how they used funds to provide opportunities for their students. #wearepcps #teampowhatan
Beating the heat! Powhatan High School freshman had P.E. indoors on a particularly hot day to avoid getting overheated. The students were still getting plenty of movement, rotating stations every 10 minutes between spikeball, kan jam, cornhole, and basketball. #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan
Over the next few months, Powhatan County Public Schools will be spotlighting the awesome employees who joined our staff this year. Please join us in welcoming them to the PCPS family. We'll start with Toni Kilpatrick, a new instructional specialist.

Learning on the go! Instead of having her 10th grade English students take notes on Aristotle’s seven elements of good storytelling from a PowerPoint presentation, Mrs. Ray had them visit different stations in the hallway to get them up and moving. “Students have a tendency to learn better when they are combining multiple parts of the brain. So that includes physical movement, in addition to writing, in addition to reading, which we will be doing in a minute,” Mrs. Ray said. #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan
We encourage our families to make sure students don't miss school days for anything but absolutely necessary absences. Missed instruction time can add up quickly and put students behind. #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

Now I’m free… free falling! Mrs. Barnes' AP Physics I and APC Physics classes took a hands-on approach with their free fall lab. The high school students dropped balls from the second floor balconies and then used the fall time to calculate the height of the drop. #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan
Mrs. Jones’ senior AP Literature and Composition students at Powhatan High School took a fun approach to literary analysis by breaking down familiar picture books to better understand their structure.
