Dear Powhatan County Families,
We are excited to invite you to learn more about the concept of a balanced calendar and its potential benefits for our students, families, and staff. A balanced calendar restructures the traditional school year by distributing breaks more evenly throughout the year while maintaining the same number of instructional days. The PCPS Calendar Committee, with feedback from other constituents, requested the option of a balanced calendar for the 2026-2027 school year.
Why consider a balanced calendar?
Enhanced Learning: Reduces long gaps without learning, helping students retain knowledge.
Consistent Breaks: Offers regular opportunities for students and staff to recharge.
Flexibility: Creates opportunities for remediation, enrichment, or family time during breaks.
What’s next?
Join us for an informational session to discuss what a balanced calendar could look like and how it might benefit our community.
