🌟Quick Reminders

We will function on a normal bell schedule week this week. Monday, January 13th will be an “All Class Day.”
6th and 7th semester elective classes ended in December. Please remind your students to check PowerSchool to see what elective they have next semester starting in January.
The 8th grade trip to visit Powhatan High School to see their course offerings that was originally scheduled for Thursday, January 9th has been rescheduled to Friday, January 17.
Please be sure your student has a charged chromebook for school.
Report Cards and Student Assessment Summaries will still be sent home with students on Wednesday, January 15.

🌟High School Scheduling

Rising 9th graders will start picking their classes soon for next school year. High School Counselors will be at PMS on January 21st and 24th to help current 8th grade students pick classes.
If you’d like to learn more about the courses offered at Powhatan High School or about life as a high schooler, take a look at the Class of 2029 Slideshow. The PCPS Course Guide also has more information for classes available.
Be sure to attend “The PHS Experience: A Showcase of Classes, Sports and Activities” on Thursday, January 16th from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.

🌟School Climate Survey

Our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Department of Education, is conducting the Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions. We will survey students in grades 6, 7, and 8, as well as classroom instructors and staff, beginning in January 2025.
The purpose of the student survey is to measure student support, student engagement, school discipline, and safety conditions in each school. This information will be used to guide educational practices that produce a safe and supportive school environment. Please see the included letter with more information.

🌟PCPS STEM Expo

We are looking for student volunteers to help out with the annual PCPS STM Expo. This year's event will be Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 5-7 pm at PHS. The middle school volunteers will help plan, set up, and run some of the activities at the event. Please fill out this interest form if you would like to be one of our 2025 PMS STEM Innovators. 🌟Ordering School Pictures

Parents still need to order pictures? Strawbridge’s NEW Code Lookup Tool is now available. Parents can simply scan the QR code and follow the directions to access their child's picture ordering gallery. No need to contact Strawbridge Customer Service for an access code! Student last name and Student ID number will be required for data security.

🌟Student Assessment Summary (SAS) Reports

VDOE and local school divisions now provide parents access to their child’s SOL test performance history reports. Families will receive the SAS report and the State Superintendent's letter from their student's school on Friday, January 10th with report cards. Each Student Assessment Summary provides information about a student's SOL test patterns and may help identify places where additional educational support may be needed or highlight accelerated learning opportunities. This information along with a student’s school level information and 2024 SOL test results provides context when engaging with a student’s teachers and school about his/her education. 🌟Students interested in the Drama & Debate Forensics Competition:

Your Forensics Coaches will be holding auditions for the Drama Competition and the Debate Competition after school on Thursday, January 16th.
Drama Auditions will take place in the PMS Commons at 3 p.m., and Debate Interviews will take place in the PMS Library at 3 p.m.
Please meet your Coaches in the Commons immediately after school. You may reach out to Mrs. Firda or Mr. Raychouni for more information

🌟Hadestown Teen Edition Audition Week Information

If you are interested in joining the Cast, Crew, and Band for the PHS Theatre production of HADESTOWN: Teen Edition, auditions have been rescheduled to this week!
To get to Powhatan High School, PMS students may ride Bus 84 after school to attend PHS after-school activities. While the directing team anticipates a long afternoon, we informed students at the Interest Meeting that they are free to leave as soon as their auditions conclude.
Cast Auditions will be held in the PHS Auditorium on Monday, January 13th starting at 3 p.m. If you are asked to attend Callbacks, those will be held after school in the PHS Library on Tuesday, January 14th, and interviews for Band and Crew will be held after school in the PHS Auditorium on Wednesday, January 15th.
