The mission of the Pocahontas Elementary School Counseling Program, in accordance with the Powhatan County Public School's Mission, is to provide a safe environment allowing students to reach his/her fullest academic and personal/social potential. It is our belief that each student is a unique member of society and capable of achieving personal success. With this belief, school counselors utilize classroom, group, and individual counseling techniques in accordance with the Virginia Standards for School Counseling.

Opt-Out

In accordance with the Powhatan County School Board Policy 6-27.1, parents have the option to limit or deny their child's participation in guidance programs. Should the choice to limit or opt-out be desired by parents, written notification must be provided to the school specifying the action desired. The notification may either be addressed to the school principal, the child's teacher, or to the school counselor.

Miss Jenkins received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Health Education from Longwood College in 1991 and a Master of Science Degree in School Counseling from Longwood University in 2002.

Taileah Rich

School Counselor

I am Mrs. Rich, the PreK,  2nd and 3rd grade counselor! I hold office hours from Monday to Wednesday every week. I am excited for my second year in Powhatan and 7th year as a school counselor! I received a Masters in Education School Counseling from GMU and a Bachelors in Social Work from VCU.
