PMS Health Services

Students should be given all medications at home whenever possible; however, if a student needs to take medication at school there is a strict policy in effect to ensure student safety and to coincide with the Board of Nursing regulations that govern licensed RN's dispensing medication.

Medication Administration and Emergency Lifesaving Measures Regulation (Policy JHCD-R)

Students may receive prescription medications at school if the following procedure is followed:

  • A medication consent form is completed by the parent/guardian (printable)

  • A written order from the physician is brought or faxed to the clinic prior to the medication being given

  • The medication is in the original, currently dated container

Students may receive over the counter medications if the following procedure is followed:

  • A medication consent form is completed by the parent/guardian (printable)

  • The medication is in the original packaging and is not expired

  • No medication of any kind may be transported on a school bus or be in a student's possession during the school day-EXCEPT emergency medications and equipment for which the student has been given permission to carry and use by the parent/guardian and physician and for which a Health Care Plan and all required documentation are on file in the school clinic.
