Exploring A Balanced Calendar for School Year 26-27
Dear Powhatan County Families,
We are excited to invite you to learn more about the concept of a balanced calendar and its potential benefits for our students, families, and staff. A balanced calendar restructures the traditional school year by distributing breaks more evenly throughout the year while maintaining the same number of instructional days. The PCPS Calendar Committee, with feedback from other constituents, requested the option of a balanced calendar for the 2026-2027 school year.
Why consider a balanced calendar?
Enhanced Learning: Reduces long gaps without learning, helping students retain knowledge.
Consistent Breaks: Offers regular opportunities for students and staff to recharge.
Flexibility: Creates opportunities for remediation, enrichment, or family time during breaks.
Your feedback is vital as we explore this idea together for the 2026-2027 school year. If you missed the information session on 1/13/25, we encourage you to watch the presentation on our YouTube Channel and provide feedback through this survey.
Please submit your survey responses by January 31, 2025.
