Just a reminder: A rise in illnesses related to the cold and flu season is upon us. Please review the school's exclusion policies for illness in our handbook. It is recommended that students not return to school until they are 24 hours fever free without medication and are free from vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hrs.
PCPS celebrated National School Counselors Week last week and I would like to give a huge shout out to Elizabeth Crane and Annmarie Horne, our amazing FRES counselors. We are so lucky to have them both!

In conjunction with The Great Kindness Challenge, please join the Flat Rock Elementary School Kindness Club and Student Ambassadors in collecting items for the Gospel Light Baptist Church Food Pantry.
The church maintains an open pantry that can be accessed on an as-needed basis, in addition to providing monthly grocery bags for families in our community. The mission of this program is to provide food for Powhatan citizens that need assistance, regardless of income qualifications.
FRES students have been practicing acts of kindness and this is an awesome opportunity to give to our community. The food drive will take place from January 31-February 13, 2025. Suggested pantry staple food items are listed below. Please, no glass containers.

Being generous is rewarding in and of itself, but we want to add an extra layer of fun to this project. Each class will be asked to keep a tally count of food items donated therein. Kindness Club members will pick up food items and tally counts on Thursday, February 13. The grade level with the highest tally by percentage will win a popsicle treat!!

This year, the Special Education Department will highlight students, staff, and parents who have supported our programs, instruction, and initiatives throughout the school year.
Each month, beginning in January, staff members, parents, and students can nominate a “Shining Star.” Each Shining Star recipient will receive a visit from our department with a “Star Award” and will be featured at the Shining Stars Awards ceremony.
Our SEAC Committee will be hosting our “Shining Stars” Awards Ceremony on March 10, 2025-PHS Auditorium

Are there any aspiring chefs out there? Well, you can showcase your skills by participating in the upcoming Future Chefs culinary competition! Fill out an entry form with your recipe showcasing “Complete the plate with your favorit main dish,” and you’ll be in the running to compete in a live competition at Powhatan High School on March 18, 2025!

GLOW Party!
- FRES PTO is excited to sponsor the Glow Party coming up on Friday, February 21st, 2025! This is for FRES sons and their VIP (very important person). The party will be hosted in the FRES Cafeteria from 6:00-8:00pm.
- Light refreshments will be provided. Please complete this form as your RSVP no later than this Tuesday, February 18. Tickets will be sent home to the eldest child of the family this week.
